Opening Personal Jarvis the first time on macOS

Last updated 2 October 2026

The first time you open Personal Jarvis on a Mac, macOS may refuse it and say the app “is damaged and can’t be opened”, or that it cannot be checked for malicious software.

The download is not damaged. That message is what macOS shows for any app that has not been through Apple’s notarization service, and Personal Jarvis has not — notarization requires a paid Apple Developer membership, which this project does not hold yet. The wording is Apple’s, not ours, and it is the same for every unnotarized app. Ourcode signing policy tracks where this stands.

You can verify the file you downloaded against the checksums published with each release on therelease page, and the app is built in public from the source inthis repository.

Opening it on macOS 15 Sequoia or newer

  1. Drag Personal Jarvis into your Applications folder, then double-click it once and dismiss the warning. Do not skip this step.macOS only offers the override below for an app you have actually tried to open, so on a fresh install the button in step 3 is not there yet.
  2. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security section near the bottom.
  3. You will see a line naming Personal Jarvis as blocked, with anOpen Anyway button next to it. Click it and authenticate.
  4. Open the app again and confirm once more. From then on it opens normally.

On macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier you can instead right-click the app and choose Open, which offers the override directly. Apple removed that shortcut in Sequoia, so on current systems use the steps above.

Or from the terminal

If you prefer one command, this removes the quarantine flag that your browser attached to the download:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Personal Jarvis.app"

Run this only on software you meant to install and obtained from a source you trust. It switches off a safety check, so it is worth understanding rather than pasting by habit — here it clears the flag your browser sets on every download, which is what makes macOS treat the app as unverified.

When this goes away

Once the project holds an Apple Developer membership, releases will be signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. The first launch then becomes an ordinary double-click with no warning and no extra steps, and this page is retired.
